I usually eat my dinner outside after a long day at work. And tonight these boys caught my attention.
To be honest, some of them are really eye sores to me but this time I know it's different. They were riding a pedicab loaded with garbage, which I believe they have collected from nearby households and then they will sell them to junkshops afterwards.
One of the boys, who looks really hungry and exhausted, approached the carinderia owner to ask for a cup of water. After quenching his thirst, he called to his brothers one by one and let them also drink on his cup.
My right hand went down voluntarily to my pocket to get a 20 Peso bill and I was so excited to talk to these kids and ask them why they are still outside. I called one of them and asked, "Magkakapatid kayo? May magulang pa kayo? Saan kayo nakatira? Nagtatrabaho na kayo?" (Are you soblings? Where are your parents? Where do you live? Are you all working already?)
Without any reservation, he willingly answered all my questions and then I noticed that all the others are already surrounding me and maybe they were curious why I was talking to their brother. Then I handed the 20 Peso bill to the boys and what surprised me—they bought it food which they shared for dinner before they left for home.
My heart was even crushed while i was looking at them because I realized the money I gave them is not enough to feed the five of them. Yet, they were very happy sharing to one another that small blessing they have received.
So instead of eating all my food, I decided to share it also to these kids because I know God wanted me to share to them a bit of heaven that moment. After that, I heard them repeatedly saying, "Maraming salamat po Kuya".
